On the evening of 1st November, at the Lecture Hall, Anqing Foreign Language School held the 2017 artistic performance entitled ‘Opera Masters Perform at Grass-Roots Level’ sponsored by Anqing Cultural broadcasting, Press& Publication Bureau and presented by Beijing Dialect Theatre in Anqing. In attendance were Anqing Foreign Language School’s President Madam Huang Wenli and boarding students from the Primary Department, the 7th and 8th grades. More noticeably, it was the second time that Beijing Dialect Art Theatre had arrived at Anqing Foreign Language School to perform. What’s more, the performance this time was still brilliant, which brought students another edification of traditional Chinese opera culture!
In the first time, the art show raised the curtain with a fresh prologue made by an outstanding young performer Guan Ying. Afterwards, the plain yet vivid ‘Lantern Show’ and ‘Mend Back Girdle’ were full of dense delight in life. In addition, the humorous ‘Make Bean Curd’ was quite comedic.
In the second place, a great many traditional classics were put on stage successively, which won a burst of warm applause. Therefore, students were full of joy. A Huangmei song ‘the Wild Wind’ impressed all students present who spontaneously sang together with singers. The wonderful singing sounded just like wind, blowing over the campus!
In the third place, the lute playing ‘Shanghai Bund’ aroused a surge of emotions. A medley of Peking opera songs ‘North Wind Blows and Pear Blossom Praises’ enabled students to feel an opera style different from the Huangmei opera. Furthermore, in ‘Peony Opera’, intelligent White Peony scoffed at Lv Dongbin and had him speechless, which made students applaud. Finally, the whole performances dropped the curtain.
To sum up, students were deeply impressed by the marvelous performances. In the meantime, the Huangmei opera atmosphere in Anqing Foreign Language School received plenty of praise from performers. Thus, professional actors and Anqing Foreign Language School shall shoulder responsibilities together to inherit the local opera culture, which will not only let the Huangmei opera wind blow over the campus, but also home and abroad.
